Carnegie Mellon University offers graduates their degrees through its seven colleges and schools on the main campus, as well as other locations such as the Silicon Valley in California and several other locations around the globe. The seven colleges and schools on the main campus are the Carnegie Institute of Technology, the College of Fine Arts, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Tepper School of Business, the H. John Heinz III College (the School of Information Systems & Management and the School of Public Policy and Management), the Mellon College of Science, and the School of Computer Science. Each of these colleges and schools has departments in which graduates earn their degrees. In example, the Carnegie Institute of Technology has various departments ranging from Engineering and Public Policy to Software Engineering and Software Management. Graduates attending Carnegie Mellon University also have the opportunity to participate in research. There are many Institutes and Centers in which they may research, such as the Center for Applied Ethics and Political Philosophy and the Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition. Graduates attending Carnegie Mellon University are offered a variety of fields in which they may earn their degree as well as centers and institutes to participate in research.
