Brown University
Brown University is one of the most prestigious universities in the United States and is well known for its liberal arts program. Brown University’s undergraduate program encourages its students to study broadly and deeply, to become self-reflective, and to develop a moral core. Brown’s undergraduate program offers about 2000 different courses, and over 100 areas of concentration. Brown undergraduate students are expected to complete four courses each semester, for a total of 32 courses in four years. With a few exceptions, students must satisfactorily complete a minimum of 30 courses in the four years. Brown offers two different types of four-year bachelor degrees: Bachelor of Arts (A.B.) and Bachelor of Science (Sc.B.). The degree the undergraduate student will earn is determined by the program that the student has chosen. Undergraduate students at Brown who have passes 30 courses in less than four years and wish to graduate early may petition the Committee on Academic Standing for approval.
