CalTech
The California Institute of Technology (Cal Tech / Caltech) is a private university that succeeds in sciences and engineering. Caltech is a very small university, and it is extremely difficult to be accepted into Caltech as it generally only accepts 800-1000 undergraduates each year. Comparing this to UCLA who accepts over twenty thousands each year, this is obviously a huge margin of difference. Despite Caltech’s small amount of students, it still prevails to be in the top 10 schools in the nation, and in the top 25 of the world. Undergraduates at Caltech are on a trimester system. This is different than the University of Chicago’s quad-semester system, and different than the typical semester system. This means that a normal student on average gets more classes and education in three trimesters than a person gets in a semester. It also means that students don’t get overworked as in the Chicago University’s system. At Caltech for the core curriculum it is mandatory for a student to take five terms of math, five terms of physics including, two terms of chemistry, and one term of biology. Very few students ever fail out of a class or the school. Unfortunately, the athletics are not so successful. In basketball, women’s and men’s are constantly on a huge losing streak counting up to over 200 games lost in a row. Barely any sports teams representing Caltech have won any championships. On another note, Caltech and MIT are constantly pranking and acting like vicious rivals. They are always acting as if the other Institute of Technology is full of lesser students.
