Leland Stanford Junior University, generally known as Stanford University is a private college located in California (United States). Stanford University enrolls over 6,500 undergraduates from all over the United States of America and from around the world. Stanford is a highly competitive school and is normally ranked in the top five of the USA and usually within the top ten of the world for undergraduate education. 89 percent of undergraduate students at Stanford live in on-campus university housing. In addition, first year undergraduates are guaranteed housing. Recently in 2008, Stanford un-hatched a plan to attempt to make some mixed gender housing. This would mean men and women could dorm or live with the opposite gender. This is because the students were pressuring Stanford to allow it, and because Stanford realized schools like Dartmouth and Brown University were enabling similar policies. This goes to show how much these competing schools such as Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, etc, all rely on each other.
