University of Oxford

The University of Oxford, commonly known as Oxford, is located in England. Oxford University is the oldest college in the history of the English speaking world. Oxford goes back all the way until the 12th century. In the early 1200’s, some students left Oxford to go start a new university. This university is now known as the University of Cambridge. Cambridge and Oxford have been rivals ever since. Oxford nearly always comes out number one in the United Kingdom, with Cambridge coming in second. In world-wide rankings, Oxford generally remains in the top ten. The University of Oxford is definitely a very prestigious school. The University has thirty eight independent colleges and six permanent private halls. Oxford’s specialty is producing leaders. Over fifty world leaders have been affiliated with the University of Oxford. Oxford’s library is the largest school library in all of the UK, with over eight million volumes. The University of Oxford also has the oldest museum in the United Kingdom: Ashmolean Museum. This is also the oldest college museum in the world! The University of Oxford is truly an important academic figure in the world today.
